For no apparent reason other than alienating more citizens faster, the Department of Homeland Security refuses to separate itself from promoting white nationalism.

On June 11th, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security’s official social media account posted a WWII-era, Uncle Sam-style propaganda poster that encouraged Americans to turn in and report fellow Americans immigrants.

The picture posted on June 11th, 2025, featured a working number for an ICE hotline and was published online shortly after DHS released a video showing footage of vandalism during the riots in downtown Los Angeles.

The illustration demanded a double take. The imagery is intentional. It is more suitable on an Alt-right X account than an official Government account.

The official social media account for the Department of Homeland Security posted the painting, Morning Pledge, by American artist Thomas Kinkade.

The odd entry marked the beginning of a new divisive campaign-type launched by prominent members of the Trump administration.
Using social media, the MAGA movement in and around Washington has had success broadcasting its political bluster using official government channels.
This latest trend seems to be using Christian American paintings to gaslight critics both online and in the media and further stoke the flames of political polarization.

A low-effort meme that could have been created by Kristi Noem herself. The meme was released the same day that the DHS Subpoenas Harvard for Documents on International Students.
I believe it was Lenin who said, “The right simply cannot meme.”
This meme actually gave me pause. I slip my STATEVISION headset off and rest its heavy frame on its charging cradle. It sounds satisfying and heavy as it settles like an old corded phone being hung on its hook. The orange lights glow on the outside indicating the battery is charging and the mandatory patch update has downloaded successfully and is ready to install itself.
I rock in the chair for a moment, briefly considering throwing the entire headset through my balcony’s sliding glass window. At seven hundred floors up, I might even have a chance to see it still in the air before it smashed on the ground. But then I’d just end up like Ron from 2889. I had never seen a man so scared.
beep
Every time another little battery LED fills up while recharging the unit makes a low-pitched beep. We are allowed to take it off from nine to ten p.m. every night with the assumed responsibility of making sure your STATEVISION headset is fully charged and up-to-date on the latest security protocols.
I use the limited time using my real eyes to envision the most worthless future apprehensible. A destiny so completely corrupt and diabolically unsound I have to recline as far back in my chair as possible just to grasp at the sheer lunacy of it all.

“Remember your homeland’s heritage” is a weird request coming from just about anyone. The painting itself, New Life in a New Land by Morgan Weistling was originally titled, A Prayer For a New Life and depicts a young pioneer family in a covered wagon with newborn child abreast.
The account posting the painting drew criticism with detractors saying it promotes white nationalist pride and anti-immigration. The artist Morgan Weistling also criticized the department for using his work without permission and misrepresenting the painting’s message. According to the artist the painting depicts a young family praying for their young child’s safety and has no political agenda at all.

Coupled with a caption doubling-down on key phrases (homeland, heritage, pride) the latest whitewashed art-appreciation post is an oil-on-canvas work by Prussian-born John Gast. American Progress depicts a Lady Liberty predecessor, Columbia expanding westward armed with an education and powerlines.
The feminine American symbol encapsulates enlightenment and intelligence, understanding, and clarity as her feet never touch the ground. Her omnipresence, symbolic for American ingenuity and perseverance lights the path in her wake. She rises like the pioneers before her, following breadcrumbs left by the sun. The sky gives way to a heavenly glow, on the ground industry booms, coal trains penetrate the plains, and the soil is tilled and populated by a strong healthy herd. What lies ahead of Colombia, into the perils of the frontier, the skies blacken, the buffalo scramble, and the natives retreat forever.
When Gast completed, American Progress it was 1872 – about eighteen years before the western frontier would be declared closed and in the midst of a particularly violent era with repeatedly betrayed Native American tribes.
Taking the timing of the creation of the painting and the artist’s original celebration of the concept of manifest destiny into consideration and the painting continues the gaslighting patterns of the administration. To be as strategically “edgy’ as possible.
Any grey area that still somehow exists is exactly the kind of inexactness that these leaders cling to whenever challenged. The intentions of the painting and the Instagram post by the DHS are one and the same.
Somedays it truly feels as though everyone in society is still expected to follow many of the same social norms and graceful practices while our leadership has one emotional meltdown after another.
Is there no one that will hold any of our leaders accountable? Is there any rational adults with any power left in Washington?
I’d love to Touch Base
